James Douglas Young, Q.C.

Age 56 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away unexpectedly at the London Health Science Centre on August 6, 1999. Born in Sioux Lookout, he graduated from Port Arthur Collegiate, following which he graduated from McMaster University and the Osgood Hall Law School. He was called to the Ontario Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1971, and was appointed a Queens Counsel in 1982.

Jim practiced as General Counsel in the City of Thunder Bay for the past 28 years. At the time of his passing he was counsel to the firm Cheadle, Johnson, Shanks, and Macivor. He was a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, The Advocates Society, was past president of the Thunder Bay Law Association and former President of the Best Western Hotel in Dryden. He was recently appointed chairman of the Thunder Bay Port Authority. He was also a member of the Thunder Bay Country Club, and Port Arthur Hunt Club.

He enjoyed his garden, his trips duck hunting in the fall, and travel with Julie. He took pride in his Scottish heritage, and his trips to Scotland provided fond memories and were a source of many stories for his friends and acquaintances. His joie de vivre was unparalleled and he was, and his memory will continue to be, an example to his family and friends of the ability of the human spirit to overcome adversity. Survived by his wife Julie (Ready); children, Harley, Erica, and Michael Young; Cheryl Ritchie (Andy), Joel Ready (Jeni), Kim Ready. Grandchildren; Kyle and Amy Ritchie, Janelle and Lauren Ready. Brother Dr. John Young (Astrid), Sister Barbara (Dr. John) Crooks, sister in-law Teresa Young, mother in-law Marie Gillies, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Helen Young, brother Robert (Punk) Young, sister-in-law Ione Perrier.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. in Trinity United Church (corner of Waverley and Algoma Streets) conducted by the Rev. Hugh MacDonald. Private Interment in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be Tuesday 7:00-9:00 p.m. (this evening) in the Sargent Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street.
