Milan, Italy

My visit to Milan was sort of a joke. I arrived at the airport around 1 AM, slammed in a few espressos and a croissant and took a caffeine power nap. After an hour of sleep, I read some of my book and then took a bus to the Milan Central Station, where I was haunted by the beautiful opera music flooding the terminal. I imagined an operatic diva like Kiri Te Kanawa belting something from Verdi’s Don Carlo at the nearby La Scala. Only moments later, the magic was shattered when I discovered the the source of the music was a looping commercial for a new mobile phone by LG.

I was carrying my bag, so I didn’t stray too far from the station area, so I didn’t see much of Milan, but I did get on a train to the legendary Cinque Terra, Pisa and Florence.
